Ceramic substrates for pressure sensors

Technical ceramic substrates form a stable basis for pressure sensors in resistive or capacitive designs.

They integrate membranes, electrodes, and electrical connections and, thanks to their high stability and media resistance, are ideal for demanding environments. They cover pressure ranges from a few mbar to several thousand bar and are often used in compact, integrated modules.

Advantages at a glance

Compared to metal or plastic-based variants, ceramic parts offer a unique combination of mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties that minimize failures and increase efficiency. The main advantages are:

High accuracy and sensitivity:

Precise response to minimal pressure changes thanks to flexible membranes – ideal for fine measurements, even in compact and space-saving designs.

Corrosion and chemical resistance:

Resists acids, alkalis, salts, and new refrigerants without degradation; non-metallic structure prevents sparks and interference in potentially explosive atmospheres

Wide temperature and pressure range:

Operational from -40°C to +200°C, high thermal stability and shock resistance; the lightweight design reduces system weight and facilitates integration into complex systems.

Mechanical durability & safety

Extremely abrasion-resistant (up to 10 times harder than stainless steel), vibration- and pressure-resistant for a long service life; thin and compact design saves space and increases safety in sensitive environments.

Areas of application

Automotive industry

  • Ceramic substrates enable precise measurement of tire pressure, engine pressure, and brake pressure. Their compact, lightweight, and non-metallic design saves space and prevents sparking—ideal for safety-critical systems.

Industry and manufacturing

  • Ceramic substrates are used in hydraulic and gas pressure systems to reliably monitor processes such as cycle control and valve regulation. The non-metallic structure prevents interference and increases safety in aggressive media.
Environmental and process monitoring
  • They offer maximum resistance and safety in corrosive or potentially explosive areas. Their compact design and spark-free operation make them ideal for new refrigerants and aggressive chemicals.
